PM – Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana

Launched by the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE) on 29 February 2024

The PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana is designed to expand rooftop solar adoption in the residential sector. With a budget of ₹75,021 crore, the scheme will run until FY 2026-27, providing Central Financial Assistance (CFA) for grid-connected rooftop solar projects.

Objectives:

Install 1 crore residential rooftop solar systems

Provide up to 300 units of free/low-cost electricity per month for 1 crore households

Generate 1,000 billion units of renewable electricity

Reduce 720 million tonnes of CO₂ emissions over 25 years

Boost local manufacturing, jobs, and energy security

Contribute to India's climate commitments

Subsidy Structure

First 2 kWp

60% of benchmark cost (₹30,000/kWp)

Next 1 kWp

40% of benchmark cost (₹18,000/kWp)

Above 3 kWp

No additional CFA

For Group Housing Societies / RWAs

Up to 500 kWp (3 kWp per house limit) at ₹18,000/kWp
